Merry

I'm a very minimal holiday person - I don't really decorate, I don't send many cards, I don't buy many gifts.  It's terrible, I know, but the things that I do choose to do are worth it.  This year I'm making simple holiday cards for my closest family members, putting up a few special ornaments, and sewing gifts for sweet little nieces and nephews.

I saw a cute card on Etsy a while ago - I can't remember which shop - and the idea stuck in my head.  This is my simplified version.  It's not finished yet, definitely too plain, but you get the idea.

How I get my protein

In the spirit of the tofu turkey I'll be eating tomorrow I'd like to share a great little Etsy purchase I made recently from this shop.  I ordered two mini books, one is "How I Get my Iron" and the other is "How I Get my Protein."  Each one lists common vegan sources of each nutrient - a great book for vegetarians/vegans to whip out when people start asking those inevitable questions about our diet and how on earth we survive without eating truckloads of animal products!  The books are really adorable and come in two different sizes!

Shop Update

I just finished part one of my shop update!  There are quite a lot of new items, plus more to come later this week.  Check it out and let me know what you think!

Also, today was my first day volunteering at Hope Animal Shelter and it was great!  The animals were so friendly and the staff members were all very caring.  My craft show went well, too - the weather was gorgeous, I made quite a few sales, and my table was right next to the cotton candy machine so it smelled really good!

Here are a few of the new items in my shop:

Weekend

I have a craft show first thing tomorrow in Oro Valley and I still have a few loose ends to tie up. I'm really looking forward to it and to my shop update next week!  Also, I'm going to a training on Sunday morning so that I can volunteer at a nearby no-kill, cage-free animal shelter.  It's something I've been meaning to do for a while and I'm really happy about it.

Have a lovely weekend!

Slowly but surely

Well, my projects are moving along very slooowly lately - work has been taking up a lot my energy and brain power.  The good news is that Thanksgiving break is almost here!  I have another craft show coming up this weekend and after that I'm planning a big shop update, so I have plenty to keep me busy!

I'm almost done with this sweater sleeve!  I wanted to have it finished before taking the photo, but no such luck!

It's a dime!

Check out my new bracelet from jessiedriscoll - we did a shop trade and I was so pleased to receive this cool jewelry made from a coin.  She has some really amazing pieces in her shop.

I have a small anatomy embroidery in the works and I've also been plugging away at my brother's sweater!  I will have photos of both to post next time!

Where does it go?

Where does the time go?  I really have no idea!  I haven't had much free time lately, but I have managed to finish up one small piece.  This one is called Specimen.  I'm not sure if it will make its way into the shop or if I'll keep it for myself!

The winner is...

The winner of my first-ever giveaway is Heather!  I used random.org to generate the winning comment.  Heather, just email me with your mailing address and I'll get the package out to you as soon as possible.  Congratulations!

I'm also very happy today because my Purple Coral piece made it to the front page of Etsy!  I knew something was up when it's views increased dramatically in just one day, and then I got a message from the wonderful Allison saying that she'd seen it on the front page.  Thanks for the tip!

The weather has finally cooled off here in Tucson, the mornings are very chilly and the sunlight feels mellow and golden.   Yesterday the moon made an appearance in the afternoon sky.

Giveaway :: Spreading the Love

I'm in a good mood today - I just mailed my latest Etsy order and received a really nice message from someone regarding my new shop.  I'd like to spread the love around by hosting my first giveaway!

The package will contain five crafty-themed photo prints from my shop, a hand-knit scarf (the cable pattern is from the One Skien book), crocheted tea cozy, and a cuuute cross stitch book I purchased in Germany.  The patterns are very European - think croissants, pastries, and espresso.

To enter, just leave a comment on this post by Friday (November 7) and make sure that you leave an email address or link to your website so I can contact you.  I'll draw the random winner on Saturday morning and post the results that day.  Good luck!

The giveaway is now closed!  Thanks to all who participated!

Almost a sock

I've been working hard on the Spring Forward socks since Friday - this pattern is addictive!  I can't help but love it when something looks complicated but is actually really easy!

I was browsing through some projects on Ravelry yesterday and found the most beautiful sweater ever.  It's called the Herbstlied sweater and - wouldn't you know - it's from a Japanese book called New Style of Heirloom Knitting.  I contacted the person on Ravelry about where they found a translated pattern and immediately began looking for other photos out there in blogland, there is a great one here if you're interested.  I love the leaf pattern up the center and would love to use just that part of the pattern for a scarf!
