In progress

Several things in progress right now (other than the now-neglected sock from yesterday)...
some new crocheted coasters
an old t-shirt knitted rug
a potential new pattern
the wonderful novel Rebecca
an idea for a new embroidery

Oh, how I love having a week's vacation!

Corner of my home

I finished teaching summer classes last week, and what a week it was!  Very hectic.  However, I had just enough time (and energy) to finish up the pot holders and hang them in my kitchen nook.

As I mentioned earlier, my kitchen is a darkish spot without a speck of natural light.  These lovely pot holders go a long way toward brightening it up, but please forgive the darker-than-usual photo!

The colors go perfectly with the vintage thermos and tupperware I ordered off of Etsy a couple of weeks ago!  They'll be perfect for taking my lunch to school.

I've started knitting a new pair of socks, but I'm not feeling very interested in the project right now.  I think it's time to browse Ravelry for inspiration!

Sneak Peak

So, I've started crocheting colorful and cheery pot holders to brighten up my sad, windowless apartment kitchen!  It's going really well so far, I've completed five and still have one or two (or three, they are addicting) more to go.

I picked up a granny-ish booklet with a bunch of hot pad and dishcloth patterns when I bought the cotton yarn (available here on Amazon), and other designs I just made up as I went along...

I'll be posting a photo or two of the kitchen once the project is finished!

Crochet Necklace

I just finished this necklace made from crocheted medallions chained together and topped with buttons.  I saw something similar in a Japanese craft book and modified it a bit to suit my taste.

A blurry kitty paw trying to snatch it away...

And I have been OBSESSED with this gorgeous picture since I first saw it and now I must make my own , although smaller, version for my not-nearly-cheery-enough kitchen.  I've already picked out some colors.

Off the needles!

The Circular Shrug is finished!  And I absolutely love it - the pattern, size, and yarn came together perfectly.

I was also excited to see my embroidered kitchen towels featured on Feeling Stitchy!  I love that site : )

time & place

I had to get outside this afternoon after spending the morning baking my favorite vegan chocolate chip cookies.  It rained last night (finally!) and the air still feels damp...

Something new

Just finished this little piece... inspired by Madame Bovary, which I've been devouring this week.

I've been in need of a new knitting project since completing the Sullivan Street Bolero and I think I've settled on just the thing!  It's the Circular Shrug and the pattern is available for free here on Ravelry.  I remembered seeing it here and here on Affectioknit and thought it was so clever I had to track it down.  I'm using 2nd Time Around cotton yarn and it feels SO soft I can't wait to wear it.  Yay!
