Fictional Cats

Here is the new drawing series I mentioned yesterday... mini portraits of "Fictional Cats"...

each one is one of a kind with a cute personality and a fun frame...

they are all hand drawn on 4 x 5 inch card stock and come in sets of three...

I thought it would be fun to put some in the shop, so I'll be working on that tonight and on Saturday!

I ordered a few tiny balls of perle cotton thread last week... I wanted a fresh, springy palette!

I also did an interview with N. Fallon Design Studio and you can read it here!

I'm working on a wonderful new embroidery project this week... it will include some lovely text and a bit of Victorian ephemera... can't wait to show it!

Project ReStyle :: Granny Chic

I have a great ReStyle to share with you today! I found this granny nightgown at a thrift store a while back (umm... in December) and the warmer weather has given me the push I need to alter it and wear it! Here is the before photo...

... it was pretty cute already, but the sleeves were too long, it was missing a button, and the buttons were spaced really far apart, which created a lot of gapping making it unwearable outside the house (I guess you're not supposed to wear nightgowns outside!). And it was pretty shapeless, too.

I liked the floral pattern, the lace and ribbon detail, the length, and the airy cotton fabric, so it was worth a few minutes of work to turn it into a cute summer dress! I took the sleeves up about 1.5 inches, replaced the missing button, and stitched placket closed to eliminate the gapping problem (I left the top two buttons functional so I can put it on over my head).

I also added a fabric belt to give the dress a waist... it's taken from a skirt I already had and the two florals look really cute together! I'm pretty happy with this little makeover!

*spring snapshots*

Sometimes living in the South can be... strange (for a Midwestern girl like me). But the weather here is amazing and the landscape is so lush and beautiful. Today, for instance, I walked around in shorts and flip flops and took photos of trees that have just burst into bloom! There is some sort of flowering vine down the street that has the most delicious smell and purple flowers... I'm not sure what it is, but I intend to get a plant book from the library and look it up.

...I love bruised petals on the ground...

*Sigh* I love spring!

Logophile Collage Series

Yesterday I worked on a new series of tiny collages and I really love the way they turned out! Each design is applied to a small wood rectangle (only 3.5 x 2.5 inches!) painted in my all time favorite robin's egg blue color. Logophile means "one who loves words," so each each design incorporates words that I think roll nicely off the tongue or are just beautiful to read and write.

I haven't decided yet whether to share these in the shop or keep them for myself! Usually the shop wins, but I'm not sure on this one!

What do you think? Do you have any favorite words I should consider for my next piece?

lucky thrifting (and a finished project)

I have another lucky thrifting find to share today... it's a medical dictionary from 1965. A strange purchase, perhaps, but I love things pertaining to anatomy and biology. I even paid $5 for it, so you know I really liked it!

The book has very thin pages and cut-out letter tabs. It also has some really great black and white illustrations...

I finished one last project from my to-do list, too! I just had to make another of these pieces in aqua since the last one sold. I seriously L O V E this color!

I filled several embroidered note orders over the weekend and I have some more ready-made notes in the works to be completed this week. I was thinking that I should create some more designs... love notes mostly, but also some for Mother's Day! They are a lot of fun to work on : )

Here is the project I mentioned yesterday... a coral trio!

Three pieces of hand crocheted sea life that would be so cool on a coffee table or shelf...

... it's a lot of fun to play with their arrangement ! (I'll be putting them up in the shop today.)

Here are some other things that I'm in LOVE with this week...

toasted marshmallow lip balm! I got this in mail yesterday and it's delicious (and vegan)!

this amazing apartment... I want to live there!

crocheted pillows with yellow and gold

thrift score

I had to run a bunch of errands yesterday and while out and about I stopped in for a quick look around the little thrift store I discovered a few weeks ago...

Even though it's tiny, there is quite a lot to see and quite a few treasures to find. I found some amazing cookbooks that are right up my alley (baking!!!) and have gorgeously styled vintage photos!

The books were published in 1965, 1979, and 1985. I'm going to get a TON of use out of the bread book and even the cookie & cake books have a lot of recipes that happen to be vegan or can be veganized easily.

I just love the way these photos were styled!

The books also had some special finds inside... hand written recipes, newspaper clippings, even an add from the 60s where a jumbo box of tea cost 49 cents! : )

Each book was only 50 cents, so I'm happy with this little splurge!

p i n k

Today was a day for pink...

I wore a flowy vintage pink top...

... and I finished this new pink soft sculpture!

This one is smaller that the ones I've done before, so it's pretty adorable!
I used a small frame purchased at a tiny neighborhood thrift store and matched
the paint to a small skein of yarn from my LYS... I love the way it
turned out.
You can see more photos from more angles in my shop listing!

swirling in the ether...

I finished this little granny square garland and the sunshine is back so I can take decent photographs! : ) This weekend I'll be running at the park, drinking blueberry tea, and working on some more projects. Reading and watching a movie will probably sneak into that list, too!

Here are some more things I'm loving this weekend:

happy weekend!
