bird watching
This weekend I've been identifying birds in my area - now that I'm paying attention I see cool birds everywhere! I've found three (beautiful!) Red-Headed Woodpeckers, a flock of Chimney Swifts, Wood Thrushes, Cardinals, and Finches. I think there are quite a few Mockingbirds in my neighborhood, but I still need to compare them more closely to my guidebook photos : )
Are any of you into birds? What bird guides would you recommend for beginners?

I love watching birds -- I used the Stokes guides for my regions -- for ID'ing I like them b/c they had pictures which for me was easier to use than paintings. I also picked up the National Geographic bird book, which has checklists so you can keep your lifelist & take notes about when you see what.
I like birdwatching too!
